Clar Angkasa is an Indonesian author-illustrator, comic artist and animator. She received her BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design in 2019 before moving to NYC to pursue a career as an artist with a focus on story-driven projects. Driven by a love for narrative art, she has a large range of work from fantastical illustrations inspired by fairytales to comedic animations and comics about mental health. Her debut graphic novel, Stories of the Islands reimagines Indonesian folktales with a feminist twist, and has received starred reviews from Booklist, The Horn Book and Shelf Awareness.

From graphic journalism to diary comics, this sequential artform offers unique storytelling opportunities. Not an artist? Not a problem. With an emphasis on ethical practices and a focus on story construction, in this workshop we'll discuss the nuts and bolts of adapting nonfiction, as well as tools and techniques involved in going from an idea to publishing. We will also discuss how collaborations with other creators can help bring your stories to life. Anybody can make comics, and we hope this will help you make one too.
